CLIENT:
An industrial remote monitoring, reporting, and control company.
Their core business is selling monitoring devices to water treatment
plants to monitor the equipment.
CHALLENGE:
The client's products has traditionally used expensive and time-consuming
hard wiring for their remote inputs. Their product development group
was developing next generation technology for cellular and wireless
products. As part of their product development initiative, they
were also looking for anytime/anywhere access via a web interface.
SOLUTION:
MarketSense developed a Java-based web server product in collaboration
with the client that performs the business critical functions of:
-
Collecting monitoring and alarm data from every deployed
Alarm Agent monitor across North America
-
Processing that data according to complex business rules,
and
-
Managing the notification process to users of alarm conditions
via voice calls, SMS messages, emails and faxes
-
Reporting statistical information and allowing remote product
configuration via an elegant web-based interface.
Because the solution deals with possible critical situations,
it's built on clustered server technology, built with redundancy
and fail safes designed as robustly as possible to maintain a high
availability system. It manages its tasks in a multi-threaded application
designed to deal with high volume processing.
RESULTS:
They are now in a position to keep its top standing in the industry,
having responded to competitive technological advancements with
a system that offers substantial cost savings and usability improvements
over their previous products, and more features and flexibility
than their competitors. They have successfully made the leap to
the wireless technology that will carry their product line into
the future.
