April 2010: MarketSense Client Legendary Auctions Featured on Good Morning America >

BURR RIDGE, Ill., April 14, 2010 – Legendary Auctions, a premier Sports and Americana auction house had an unusual collection of John F. Kennedy letters to sell, a short time to get the word out and a conservative budget for the effort. MarketSense developed a public relations strategy that landed the collection in a significant Good Morning America segment and resulted in a cascade of print, broadcast and internet coverage valued at more than $1.5 million. Perhaps most importantly, the collection sold for nearly three times pre-auction estimates.

The Good Morning America segment was secured after MarketSense conducted background research on the collection and discovered that an interview regarding an individual involved in the genesis of the letters was previously interviewed on the network. Utilizing that information, a pitch was developed and directed to the appropriate producer at Good Morning America. Pick-up of the pitch was swift and a story driven by ABC Network Nightly News correspondent Chris Bury followed.

“I could not be more pleased with the results of this effort,” said Doug Allen, president of Legendary Auctions. “Every aspect of the public relations approach was strategically executed to ensure maximum media exposure.”

According to Allen, the real success of the public relations effort can be found in the fact that several collectors participating in the auction have become new Legendary Auctions bidders. “We are talking about high-end, international collectors who previously were not aware we existed,” said Allen. “The dividends of this incredibly successful effort will continue to pay off as these individuals continue to bid in future sales events.”
